Staying Motivated – Fitness

It’s no secret. The biggest challenge for you and I is finding the motivation to begin an exercise program or continue one recently started. Together, how can we inspire each other to make fitness a priority everyday?

Our health is so important. Let’s get started. First, we’ll both need to accept the fact that living a healthy lifestyle is a process and not an event. Fitness is the end result of our daily habits and our everyday behavior. We rarely question why we do certain things, its just habit. So first of all we’ll need to alter our habits. How?

You and I are going to take action! I’m getting motivated just thinking about taking action – action breeds motivation. We’re in this together. What’s next?

Do we even know why we have certain habits? Changing our behavior is going to take time so the sooner we’re able to focus on making small changes the sooner we’ll see results. I’m making one small change today. I’ll walk just a little more today and tomorrow in addition to my regular exercise program. I’ll take a little extra time to enjoy the world around me while walking. I’ll keep my head high and see things as I’ve never seen them before. I can see this is going to pay off. It’s the right path and we’re on it. That was easy, now what?

Now that I’m walking more, I need the right fuel. My eating habits need to change, but not all that drastically. Let’s agree that you and I will spend a little more time making better choices while shopping for groceries. Health Care Reform Bill Will Cover Illegals



Everyone remembers President Obama declaring that public insurance options would not cover illegal immigrants and Rep Joe Wilson shouting “You lie!”

There have also been numerous attempts by House and Senate Republicans to add amendments to the bills with specific language denying public finance insurance for illegal immigrants. All of those attempts have been defeated by the Democrats. The congressional research service has stated that HR 3200, the basis of most of the health care bill’s language, would cover illegal immigrants.

You can probably expect to see some language make it into drafts of final bills excluding public dollars to fund insurance for illegal immigrants as most voters are against providing it even if they are for some form of public option. Which does not explain the Democrats insistence that no such language is in the various bills or President Obama declaring that his plan would not cover those people in the country illegally.

Once language is inserted into the bill, then Americans do not have to worry about providing publicly funded insurance to illegal immigrants right?

Wrong!

In 1982, the Supreme Court ruled in Plyler v. Doe that benefits offered to the general public could not exclude certain groups of people even people in the country illegally.

Texas had a law that denied funds for public education to children in the country illegally. The Supreme Court ruled in Plyler v. Doe that the Texas state law was in violation of the constitution stating that “as illegal immigrant children are people “in any ordinary sense of the term”, and therefore had protection from discrimination”.

The President is either trying to mislead the American people or is ignorant of the fact that in Plyler v. Doe, the Supreme Court insured that the legislature would not be able to stop illegal immigrants from getting free or subsidized insurance if it is offered to the public in general.

This alone is enough reason to oppose any public option to be included in healthcare reform.

The next time you hear a politician say that illegals will not be covered under a public option, feel free to shout out either “You lie!” or “You are ignorant!”. However, shouting out “You are ignorant” is probably closer to the truth.

Health Care vs. the Lower Middle Class



For many Americans, health insurance is a medical necessity and without it, many Americans would be left with medical bills that are too expensive to pay. Most people would agree that without some form of health insurance, purchasing prescription drugs would not be possible. Many Americans, such as those with diabetes cannot survive without certain prescription medications.

The upper middle and upper class citizens are generally able to afford health care, often times without needing health insurance and lower class Americans are able to obtain health care through organizations such as Medicaid, which usually pay for over-all incurred medical expenses.

So who did we leave out of this mix of American society? The lower middle class Americans who “fall between the cracks” of obtaining the quality health care they need.

Why can’t many lower middle class Americans afford quality health care? To provide an adequate answer to this question, we first need to define the American class system in terms of socioeconomics and its relationship to health insurance and the general health care system.

The working class or middle class is defined as a group of people who make up about 33% (the majority) of the population and bring home an average yearly income of $30K to $50K per year. The upper middle class also averages $55K to about $155K annually.
Compare those figures to the upper class, which make up only 2% of the population and contribute $155K to billions per year. One can clearly see that there is a large economic gap between the classes and that income in part plays a significant role as to why many lower middle class Americans cannot afford quality health insurance or health care.

Another contributing factor as to why many working class Americans cannot afford health care is due to the continued rising costs of over-all health care. Total health care costs, including insurance premiums have gone up drastically since 2001 and many employers are “sticking” the additional associated health insurance costs to their employees.

While many working class Americans are presented with health insurance opportunities, (usually through employment) many cannot afford the high monthly and sometimes yearly premiums associated with a health insurance plan. Other working class citizens are able to afford the insurance premiums, but are unable to take advantage of a health care plan because such a large percentage of their monthly or yearly income is set aside to pay for health insurance. This leaves many Americans left with the dilemma of making a choice between basic necessities such as paying for a monthly mortgage note, groceries or health insurance.

In essence, American society has created and contributed to a highly flawed health care system that caters to the rich, cares for the poor, yet excludes the largest percentage of its population. As a society, we need to develop new ways of coping with the changes and rising costs in our health care system and develop a method that allows the lower middle class to receive the quality health care they deserve without going penniless.

This may require a change in the American healthcare system itself or quite possibly, a change within government medical aid. Either way, one thing is certain: Without the basic necessities of life, including quality healthcare, the working class over time is sure to crumble.

Fitness Boot Camp – The Affordable Way to Fitness



A fitness boot camp is generally a team of people led by an instructor to exercise outdoors. It is similar to a military training camp in some ways such as team spirit and group training. Such a fitness program is generally conducted outdoors without the use of many special types of equipment a gym offers.
